Benefits to Kitchen Garden Salsa The best thing about growing a kitchen garden is the salsa. Choose sweet, hot, mild, or spicy. You can change up the recipe every time you make it or keep the same one if you like it that much. What do I like about making my own garden salsa? It’s fresh. Organic. Right outside the kitchen door. When I have everything to make it but a jalapeno, I don’t have to drive to town to buy a pepper. You can always have salsa on hand. If you don’t have any freshly made, you don’t have to wait. It only takesRead More →

Follow my blog with Bloglovin  Eat a two-egg omelet for breakfast, and you have about 12 grams of protein. Add pork sausage, onion, and herbs to that, and your protein increases to about 18-20 grams. Protein and exercise together can boost muscle mass and metabolism. Grow an herb garden close to your kitchen. When you’re cooking, then you can quickly go outside and grab the herbs you want. Organic herbs add so much flavor to dishes. Dill, oregano, and cilantro from my kitchen herb garden were included in this omelet recipe. First, I chopped up the already-cooked pork sausage and part of an onion. SinceRead More →

February is filled with dip, snack, and dessert recipes galore for Super Bowl get-togethers and Valentine’s Day. But what about after those two most popular occasions? After all those snacks and sweets, veggies sound very appetizing. Too many snacks and desserts can pack on the pounds quickly. I’ve been choosing more protein meals, cutting back on meat (although I love it), and increasing vegetable and fruit intake. Veggies for Breakfast This morning I started off with a veggie-packed three-egg omelet. Too many eggs? Perhaps not. My husband met a professional truck driver who feeds his pet macaw a four-egg omelet for breakfast. I had theRead More →

This week I’ve challenged myself to prepare meals by using four different kitchen appliances. Crockpot, microwave, and griddle meals are doable. Pop-up toaster meals require a bit more creativity. I shared my griddle and pop-up toaster French Vanilla French Toast meal previously. It turned out successful, so much that I’ve made it twice already. The crockpot meal, Crockpot Pork Chops, turned out great. I’ll make that one again for sure. The recipe is for four pork chops, servings for up to four people. I also made a crockpot chocolate pudding brownie dessert. While that was cooking (1-1/2 hours), I cooked the chocolate frosting in the microwave.Read More →

Years ago when I worked at Houston Natural Gas Corporation (HNG), that later became Enron (I had already left by then), there was a young lady who ate yogurt every time I saw her in the break room. At the time, I didn’t eat yogurt. Seeing the girl’s daily yogurt snack, however, made me curious. She ate the kind that has fruit at the bottom. It looked interesting, so, I got brave and tried different brands. I really didn’t care for yogurt at first. I had to acquire a taste for it. Eventually, though, I began to like it. Now I’ve graduated from the berriesRead More →

Banana pudding has been served many times in my family as long as I can remember. It was my dad’s favorite dessert. Recently, I was visiting my daughter, Cristen, and her family and she asked me to make banana pudding for an Apartment Life event she was attending. Cristen is a Program Director for Apartment Life, a unique culture that is all about caring for your neighbor. During the Christmas holiday season, I was asked to volunteer at an Apartment Life festivity by serving food. It was a joy to mingle with the CARES Teams and leaders and to get a glimpse of their love forRead More →

Kitchens should always be stocked with yogurt and granola. Start your day with a light breakfast with a lot of protein. It’s filling and helps fight cravings for snacks and sweets. Prepare a bowl of Greek yogurt, mix a teaspoon of honey in, and top with granola. Holiday desserts, comfort food, and special breakfast entrees (usually with bread) easily increase the pounds and stretch the waist bands. By the time January rolls around, it’s time for a Daniel’s Fast or at least to cut back on foods loaded with calories and carbs. Choose a vanilla flavored Greek yogurt, or get a plain yogurt and addRead More →
