Grilled Hamburgers
Hamburger Cravings

Do you ever crave a big fat hamburger loaded with onion, tomato, and lettuce on an onion bun? It wouldn’t be a good idea to give in to that craving every day, but an occasional old-fashioned hamburger ON BUNS is SO good! When I get off of my regular routine of eating every three hours, even a plain beef patty sounds appetizing.

How does spending a few days away from your routine at home affect your eating? If you’re like me, it throws you off balance. You tend to give in easier to less nutritious foods like queso and chips, donuts, and few veggies.

Like the craving for hamburgers with buns, it is an enjoyable occasion when you get to fill a queso craving – or a Red Velvet Filled Donut Hole.

When I give in to cravings for hamburgers on buns and queso, the control to not have more is always a hard thing. You know how it is. You go visit family or on vacation and see foods you don’t bring into your own kitchen. You tell yourself that just one time won’t hurt. Then there’s the next day away from home and the next. After a week or so, your clothes begin to feel a little uncomfortable.

Enjoy the vacation and the specialty foods but in moderation. Here are five tips that help me if I indulge too much on queso, filled donut holes, and simply too much bread

  1. Eat more protein. Protein, as in plain hamburger patties, helps me to steer clear of carbs.
  2. Drink Shakeology in the morning, at night, or for a snack.I love the Cafe’ Latte in the mornings. It helps me stay on the three-hour schedule. It’s so refreshing to drink. Mixing the vanilla flavor with blended frozen strawberries helps satisfies my sweet cravings.
  3. Drink plenty of water. Flavored water works if you hate to drink plain water.
  4. Snack on raw broccoli, and dip it in a chipotle or ranch dressing.
  5. Eat a variety of fruits.

Back in the day when I returned to college to complete my degree, I graduated with a BA in General Studies. The fun thing about that was I got to keep my major, Business, but needed to add more credits to my minors. The minors of emphasis were Family and Consumer Science and Sociology. That included the study of nutrition which fascinated me.

I’ve learned by experience that people who enjoy eating tend to eat more than they think they are eating. “Well, I didn’t have much for breakfast, just a blueberry muffin. And I only had a burrito for lunch with only rice, beans, and cheese.”

It’s hard enough to be careful not to overeat at home, much less when you’re on the road or visiting with family and friends. Find nutritious ways to curb your appetite. There is an abundance of food recommendations on how you should eat. Do your own research, check with your doctor, and find out what works best for you.

  1. It’s true that it’s so easy to overeat when on vacation. A friend of mine went on a week long cruise once. Cruise ships are known for their abundance of delicious foods. “Formal night” was near the end of the cruise. She could barely zip her formal gown that she brought with her.
