Benefits to Eating Cabbage

First of all, cabbage is considered a Southern vegetable that isn’t loaded with a ton of calories, fat, or carbs. It’s a good source of Vitamins K and C. Furthermore, it’s very easy to cook.

Ways to Cook Cabbage

Southern Cream Cheese Cabbage, at least the recipe in this blog post, refers to a slow cooker recipe. Initially, I made the recipe with a turkey breakfast sausage. However, this is optional, and the cabbage makes a wonderfully-tasting simple side dish without the sausage.

You can also cook cabbage on the stove in a skillet as a Southern Fried cabbage recipe. And just as easy as the slow cooker or on the stove, you can cook it in a pressure cooker. Scroll to the bottom of the page for more Southern cabbage recipes.

I created this recipe one day because I had cabbage and cream cheese on hand. What I came up with totally took me by surprise. Cream Cheese Cabbage.

Creamed Cabbage Recipe Options

You can come up with all kinds of creamed cabbage recipes. Serve it as a main course, or make it a tasty side dish. I listed a favorite of my cabbage recipes below and included a few other sides and ideas as well.

  1. Shrimp Cabbage Scampi
  2. Make Creamy Cabbage with Sausage just like Shrimp Cabbage Scampi but without the shrimp.
  3. For a delicious side dish, make this Easy Coleslaw with Sugar-Free Dressing.
  4. If you’re a fan of cabbage and casseroles, make a cheesy cabbage casserole recipe in your pressure cooker or slow cooker. Use sauteed onion, cabbage (chopped), creamy sauce, stick of melted butter, cheesy topping, and topped with crispy bacon.

That last cabbage recipe idea will make quite a rich cabbage mixture but oh so good. Of course, you could adapt it however you like. For instance, only use one-half stick of butter or make it a meal by adding cooked ground beef.

You’ll notice in the next section, Ingredients and Seasonings, cans of creamed soups are included. In case you don’t have creamy sauce ingredients, use a can of creamy soup. It’s a good idea to always keep a few cans of creamed soups on hand.
