A Vegan Grilled Cheese Bagel

Have you tried a grilled cheese bagel? When there is no bread in the kitchen and only cinnamon raisin bagels and it’s National Grilled Cheese Day, you make a grilled cheese bagel. Vegetarians and vegans, this one is for you. I used Chao, a vegan cheese.

National Grilled Cheese Day
Grilled Cheese Bagel

Today I went to the supermarket and thought I had everything on my list until I was standing in the checkout. I realized I had forgotten to get bread. Later in the evening, I found out it is National Grilled Cheese Day. No way could I pass up the challenge of making a vegan grilled cheese sandwich even if it was on a bagel. There is one glitch, though. I used real butter, not vegan.

Chao Cheese Substitute

I’ve been wanting to try out a grilled cheese sandwich with Daiya cheese but saw the Chao slices, Creamy Original, with Chao Tofu. Next time, I’ll get the Daiya cheese for my next grilled cheese sandwich.

The Chao cheese will do, but I prefer the real McCoy – cheddar, American, etc. However, I do think that if the bagel would have been plain, not cinnamon and raisin, it would have tasted better

See what you think. Try the Chao sometime and let me know how you like it.

I couldn’t pass up the opportunity of trying out this vegan grilled cheese bagel. It was later in the evening, so I only ate half and saved the other half for tomorrow.

Grilled Cheese Raisin Cinnamon Bagel

National Grilled Cheese Day - It's on a Bagel

Grill a bagel, and make it a vegan grilled cheese.

Servings 1

Ingredients

  • 1 Cinnamon Raisin Bagel
  • Cream Cheese
  • 1 slice Vegan cheese slice
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  1. Slice the bagel into halves.

  2. Add butter to an iron skillet, and let it melt.

  3. Put the bagel slices on top of the butter in the iron skillet, inside down first.

  4. Turn the slices over, and grill while you add the cheese on the inside of the bagel.

  5. Cut the grilled cheese bagel in half, eat one half and save the other for later - or eat the whole thing if you're really hungry.

Try my Guiltless Semi-Vegetarian Grilled Cheese Sandwich. It’s one of my favorites.

Thank you for visiting Kitchen Southern Hospitality.

Happy National Grilled Cheese Day!
