Light Pear Dessert

My husband took me out to eat at a buffet recently. Being careful about the amount of food I eat on my fitness journey, I usually don’t indulge in dessert. However, I had noticed pears in the salad section.

Thinking of my mother’s creative way of serving light recipes when I was young and trying to lose weight, I thought of the pears. I knew March 5th, a significant date for me, was just around the corner. My husband asked if I was ready to go.

“Not yet. I saw some pears in the fruit section. I’m going to get a plate of them.”

I did. Not a full plate of pears. Three slices of pears.

Next, I added grated cheese on top.

I didn’t ask if they had mayonnaise like Mother used. However, I love bleu cheese. I know. It sounds crazy. But just maybe it would taste good. It was worth a try.

If anyone noticed my three little slices of pears on my big plate, I imagine it looked quite funny.

On the other hand, I thought it looked delightful – like the way Mother always made it appear when she served it. I’ll share it with you. It makes a wonderful fruit dish for the 21-Day Fix eating plan, part of my fitness journey along with Shakeology.

21-Day Fix and Shakeology

Since last August, I have been drinking Shakeology. I discovered that it helps with digestion and decided to try it out. The shake not only helped my digestion. I noticed my sweet cravings had disappeared. Surprised, I began to pay closer attention to the package I had received in the mail. Included in the packet was the 21-Day Fix eating booklet and workout DVDs. Why not, I thought, do a workout with one of the DVDs. That was the beginning of my fitness journey.  I had wanted to lose some weight but had been on a plateau for a long time. Finally, I was weighing less. Since September, I’ve lost 20 pounds and am feeling MUCH better physically – not near as weak in my muscles as before.

Today is March 5th. It’s a day that I like to honor my mother. It’s the day she passed from this life nine years ago. She would get a kick out of me adding that bleu cheese. I don’t think it’s a mayonnaise substitute she would have tried on this dessert. But it was good.

Tell me if you try it out. It’s really a great little treat.

In honor of you, Mother, I’m still treating myself to that wonderful dessert you made me many times. Not the German Chocolate cake with the gooey delicious homemade coconut buttery icing you made so well. The light one with pears. Scattered with grated cheese. Oh, and I changed it up this time. You’d tease me about it, get a good laugh. By the way, I’m still working at keeping my weight off.
