Grandchildren and Pancakes at Kitchen Hospitality

How can you make breakfast for kids the most important meal of their day? Create meals that your kids will love.

Thus blog post includes breakfast ideas for kids and a quick and easy air fryer bacon recipe.

Easy Way to Find Breakfast Ideas

The easy way to find breakfast ideas for kids is ask them what they want.

Take your kids to a restaurant for breakfast, and allow them to choose from the selections on the kids menu. See which sides they order. Include those foods with breakfast menus at home.

I have fun making breakfasts for my grand littles because it brings them joy. Foods they like for me to make include pancakes (their favorite), scrambled eggs, or fried eggs. When those options aren’t available but fresh fruit (especially blueberries) is, that makes them happy just as well.

Ask the Kids

And when in doubt about what to do for breakfast for the kids, I just ask the kids. “Donuts!” they’ll say. Or “Cereal!”

Occasionally, they get their sugar-idea breakfast wishes. That’s if we’re going to do an outside activity and they can work off the extra energy.

Eggs

Got eggs? Look at what you have on hand. You can create fun ways for egg breakfasts. See my crunchy and easy French Fried Onion Spinach & Eggs.

Your kids or grandkids will surprise you sometimes with what they are willing to try for breakfast.

My grandkids love over-medium fried eggs. Know how I found that out? I ordered them at restaurants, and the kids asked for one of my eggs. Now I know they really like them so I cook them for breakfast occasionally.

Scrambled Eggs

Scrambled eggs are so simple and quick to cook. Put them in sandwiches and burritos. Add cheese, bacon, sausage and/or veggies (like bell pepper or spinach).

Serve egg sandwiches with blueberries or your kids’ favorite fruit.

Scrambled Egg Sandwich Varieties

Use a variety of breads, a different kind each week. Egg sandwiches are good on toasted waffles, English muffins, croissants or simply white, wheat, and on multi-grain or whole-grain bread.

Breakfasts for Busy Mornings

Mini Pancakes

Mini Pancakes

Make a big batch of mini pancakes either from scratch or from a pancake box mix.

Here’s a hint on how to keep your kids’ servings to a minimum. Pour a small amount of batter like silver-dollar size for extra mini pancakes.

Kids can eat seconds and thirds without overstuffing themselves when eating tiny pancakes. And they’ll feel satisfied because they got to eat a lot in one serving.

Peanut Butter Pancakes

Add a tablespoon of peanut butter into the mixture. No syrup needed.

Toddlers and older kids alike love these extra-mini size peanut butter pancakes. Even the parents love them.

I’ve made peanut butter pancake minis and put them in little snack bags for my grandkids. So handy when in a hurry. These minis are so cute and taste yummy for anybody who loves peanut butter.

Make a Double Batch for Leftover Pancakes

Busy moms and dads (grandmas too), add pancakes to your menu for the kids and cook a double batch. Or make a big batch for yourself and save the leftovers.

Leftover pancakes makes the next morning’s breakfast quick and easy. Warm up the pancakes in an air fryer or microwave, and they’re ready to eat in a minute or two.

Pancake Variations

  • Peanut butter pancakes
  • Blueberry pancakes
  • Banana pancakes
  • Strawberry pancakes

Peanut butter pancakes are simple to make. Just add a spoon of peanut butter into the batter.

Blueberry Pancake Egg Foldover

Try my fun and delicious Blueberry Pancake Foldover for your kids’ breakfast. It has sausage in it. You can, however, change that up and use bacon, ham, or Canadian bacon.

Delight your kids with strawberry pancakes by slicing fresh (or thaw frozen) strawberries and adding them to your pancake batter.

I’ve had the best peach cobbler pancakes at the Another Broken Egg restaurant. It’s delicious. When peaches are in season, surprise your family with pancakes topped with peaches and cream.

You can keep your breakfast simple like a bowl of cereal, an egg, or microwave a frozen breakfast meal. Yes, that’s easy.

But when you have a little extra time in the mornings, make a special meal. Fry bacon, and bake biscuits. Or make a huge stack of pancakes.

Air Fryer Breakfasts

Since I love breakfast so much, I’ve been experimenting with air fryer breakfasts. I’m all about easiest ways to make meals and was excited to discover how easy bacon is in the air fryer.

Treat yourself to an air fryer if you don’t have one. I love mine and like to try new recipes in it.

I’ve cooked eggs and bacon in the air fryer. The air fryer eggs were okay. I prefer cooking mine in an iron skillet.

Air fryer bacon on the other hand is wonderful. Easy. Not as messy as cooking it in a pan.

Here’s a recipe for the air fryer bacon.

Ingredients

  • 3 pieces Fried Bacon

Instructions

  1. Place each piece of bacon into the air fryer basket so that they aren’t overlapping.

  2. Cook for three minutes on 350°.

  3. Pull the air fryer basket open and turn the bacon over.

  4. Cook the bacon for two more minutes.

  5. Check the bacon to see if it’s crispy enough. If it isn’t as crispy as you like it, cook another minute.

Recipe Notes

You can make this recipe even simpler by first cutting each piece of bacon in half.

While you’re cooking the bacon in the air fryer, you can be frying eggs in a skillet on the stove. Mix up a batch of pancakes to serve with the bacon and eggs.

I like to cook my pancakes on my long cast iron griddle that fits over two burners. It doesn’t take long to cook several small pancakes on it.

Make Breakfast with Your Kids

Make a big pancake breakfast served with bacon and eggs occasionally like on one Saturday every month. Give the kids a task to do to make it special such as setting the table. Or stirring the pancake batter.

My grandchildren love to help me make pancakes. They like to stir the batter and pour the batter onto the griddle.

Have fun with creating new breakfast ideas for your family. Enjoy making breakfast with your kids. You’ll be making memories with them as well, and breakfast will become their most favorite meal of the day.
