I went with my husband on a trip to Canton, Texas for the First Monday Trade Days Flea Market in April. We ate hamburgers at a place that used amazing spicy teriyaki sauce (Mama C’s Gourmet Teriyaki Sauce). They were selling bottles of the sauce. We liked the flavor so much that we purchased a bottle of it. I tried it with chicken strips and loved the results. If you like chicken and spicy foods, you’ll love this Air Fryer Spicy Teriyaki Chicken Strips recipe.Jump to Recipe And if you love the spicy teriyaki sauce as much as we did, you can order it at www.mamacs.net (I am not sponsored by Mama C’s for mentioning the teriyaki sauce in this food blog post or the recipe.)

If you don’t have an air fryer yet, really, you should consider buying one. I’m telling you, it’s one of the easiest kitchen appliances to cook and reheat small meals in. I have a red Bella air fryer and love it. It’s different than the Bella 2.6 qt. air fryer in the picture below. Mine is a 2 qt.

Who Do Air Fryers Benefit?

  • Mom who works from home
  • Single individual
  • Person who cooks for two
  • Grandma who prepares meals for grandchildren

Keep an air fryer on hand no matter if you’re cooking for one or a large family. It’s easy to use. And if you have children old enough to fend for themselves, they can make a quick meal in the air fryer.

What are the Benefits of an Air Fryer?

  • Air fryer cooking will make your life easier.
  • You can eat fried foods without greasiness.
  • Leftover fried foods (like Chick-fil-A waffle fries, my fav) taste better air fried than microwaved.
  • One/two-person meals are easy to cook quickly (Example: a hamburger patty or grilled cheese sandwich).

Here’s the recipe:

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp Salt Free Garlic & Herb Seasoning
  • 1/8 cup Mama C’s Gourmet Teriyaki Sauce Spicy (Use 1/4 cup for extra sauce and extra spice. See www.mamacs.net to order.)
  • 1 tbsp Exra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 1 package Organic chicken breast tenders 8 tenders

Instructions

  1. Season the chicken tenders with the garlic and herb seasoning.

  2. Combine the teriyaki sauce and oil in a cup and rub the mixture on every piece of chicken.

  3. Add the chicken tenders to the fry basket (The amount of tenders will depend on the size of your air fryer), leaving a little space in between for air circulation browning (It's okay to let them overlap some.)

  4. Set air fryer to 350°F (You may need to preheat your air fryer first), air fry for 10-12 minutes (your air fryer may not take the same amount of time) and turn chicken tenders over halfway through the air frying time (turning the food halfway assures even cooking/browning).

  5. Depending on your air fryer, the chicken tenders may still need to be cooked a few more minutes. If so, increase the heat to 400°F, and cook for 3-6 minutes, turning chicken tenders again halfway through each air frying time.

  6. Repeat with any remaining chicken tenders.

Recipe Notes

The calories are approximate and are calculated per 4 chicken tenders.

I have not been sponsored by Mama C's for the Gourmet Teriyaki Sauce but have included her website should you be interested in ordering the sauce.

I’ve eaten the teriyaki chicken without any sides and in a sandwich. Listed below are a few Teriyaki Chicken Tender Meal Options you may want to try:

  • Sandwich
  • Chicken strips with a side salad (See Broccoli and Cauliflower Salad)
  • Chicken strips with a hot vegetable side (green beans, cabbage, or squash)
  • Chicken strips with mashed potatoes and white gravy. Dip the chicken strips in the gravy, and pour the gravy over the potatoes.

You can choose a different teriyaki brand, of course. Be adventurous and make the recipe with different sauces. I prefer to use sugar free or low sugar and low carb marinades such as Mama C’s. However, there are other brands that offer the lower sugar marinade varieties like the G Hughes Sugar Free Marinades:

Adults and kids love chicken strips. It’s one of the easiest and quickest recipes you can make in an air fryer. They’re all good – teriyaki, barbecue, and even seasoned without any sauce.
