Ground Beef Choices

The next time you go grocery shopping, take a moment to review the prices of all of the hamburger packages. You’ll find several available options:

  1. one pound
  2. three pound
  3. ten pound
  4. thirty pound
  5. lean
  6. extra lean
  7. 93% lean
  8. 85% lean
  9. 78% lean

The leaner is usually more expensive, of course. And the ten-pound and thirty pound may seem like a lot to purchase. However, you can divide the hamburger into freezer bags and store in the freezer. You’ll have plenty of ground beef to last for weeks or months. This will give you extra savings.

Planning a July 4th hamburger grilling party for friends?

On a particular supermarket outing, food blogger Patty Cakes from pattycakespantry.com and I compared hamburger prices. There were two ten-pound packages, 85% X-Lean for $2.88 per pound and 93% XX-Lean for $3.695 per pound.   The 93% XX-Lean has less fat.

So the choice is yours: less fat or less expensive. When the budget is lean, the less-expensive option wins every time if it’s left up to me. And if you’re grilling, you don’t have to bother with draining the grease – it drips right into the coals.

Pressure Cooker Meals Beat Sweating it Out in the Kitchen

Who wants to cook over a hot stove when the temperature is in the 90s or 100s? Not me!

Try what I do – cook in an electric pressure cooker. It saves having to sweat it out in the kitchen. I made the following chili recipe in my pressure cooker. Easy! Delicious! It hardly takes any time to prepare or cook.

Chili is often a fall favorite, but it can be great in the summer or any season. For instance, the new Simple Summer Recipe cookbook has a summer chili recipe and an open-faced chili sandwich recipe. Oh, and don’t forget chili hotdogs during your July 4th celebrations.

Is Cooking in a Pressure Cooker Safe?

Is cooking in a pressure cooker safe? Some may fear an electric pressure cooker might blow up.

My mother used to cook in a stove-top pressure cooker for years and never had a problem with it.

The modern electric pressure cooker comes with instructions and recipes. If you feel extra cautious, ask a friend who has one to show you how to operate it.

Want to know a secret about my pressure cooking? I was one of those that wasn’t accustomed to cooking with an electric pressure cooker.

My friend who loved cooking in hers came over for dinner with a mission in mind. Together, we made a roast and vegetable dinner in my new electric Farberware pressure cooker.

Now? I make all kinds of recipes in my electric Farberware pressure cooker. It amazes me how fast it cooks a whole meal.

Kitchen Appliances Make Life Easier

Kitchen appliances make life in the kitchen easier and convenient. My husband and I actually still use the toaster we were given at our wedding shower, and that’s been nearly 39 years! Can you imagine?

The old toaster is older, and thicker slices of bread, like bagels, don’t fit in our toaster. But it works for us.

The electric griddle comes in pretty close to the top of my kitchen cooking appliance favorites. There’s a special holiday story about this and was one of the last times I went shopping with my dad.

My dad, daughter, and I went Christmas shopping to pick out gifts for the family Chinese Gift Exchange. We chose an electric griddle.

Daddy was quite generous and because I didn’t have one, he bought two of them. That was my Christmas present from him that year. The griddle is a sentimental kitchen appliance.

What is your favorite kitchen appliance? Here are some handy kitchen appliances to have:

Battery-Operated Can Opener

Hot Air Popcorn Appliance for Cooking Healthy Popcorn

Paul Deen Large Air Fryer

Cooking in the kitchen is fun and convenient with easy-to-use appliances.
